How to avoid various problems in project?

   Project changes happen also in professionally prepared projects. Of course, in weakly prepared projects they are more frequent. A predefined and transparent change management process is therefore an essential element of project planning, monitoring and control. It is also one of the project manage-ment competence elements defined in IPMA Competence baseline 4.0. Change management is formalized process of anticipating disputes over project chan-ges, documenting the project change requests and their solving. It contains: • monitoring and identifying change requirements and transformation opportunities, • defining clear project goals, exact description of the contract conditions and exact de-scription of the required project scope (this description can be later refined on), • reviewing and aprobating the changes through negotiation, • refusing or accepting the required changes, • actualisation of the project scope and outputs, • timely information transfer within the project team, • authentication of the accepted and realised changes, • organisational learning.    This is obviously one of projects where customer has issue to clearly define what to expect from project. Usually there are some internal processes running in customer company which are intervening, preventing effective communication and proper definition of project outcome. I don’t think you can do much about it. You probably hear from people around that you could probably define better scope during initiation of project, come up with better communication plan or make better preparation for unexpected circumstances. None from items mentioned above would save you from from issues you are experiencing. The speed they have chosen, the style of communication they started to use, changes they are asking to perform are actually not against any project management methodology. Customer is not breaking any project management methodology rule. You just need to passionately continue in communication and entire project. Some projects are like that. You are providing your part, they are providing monetary compensation.
