Team members call me "control freak"!

   I don’t think you are „control freak“ if you admit it, if you are concerned about the crossing the lines, if you are willing to discuss it and even do something about it. You are project manager who simply take responsibility for project very seriously. I have seen quite a few people who could be labeled by name “control freak“. They never admitted they are over controlling the project team, they have been overloading team with long lists of tasks which were barely related to the project in the project phases when team members needed to focus on difficult tasks. Project meetings were so often so team members were more busy with reports than with actual work. One of those people has even required to vow the oath and allegiance to the project and himself. I could continue but you have feeling how it was,.. that was real crossing of lines...project was more about him than about project goals. Regarding the second part of your question – how to delegate tasks and let your team work freely. I would make deal with project team members – convince me that close oversight is not necessary, gain my trust and you will not be under microscope.
