Activity planning

Hello. I would like to ask how to plan the project where we have to finish 10 various partial activities (as prerequisites) before assembling actual product? I was thinking to call it a program and with 11 projects but projects would be rather small.

  1. It depends on what you mean by the word “activity”. In project planning the activity means one basic, unbroken and separate part of the project time schedule. The duration of this activity must be shorter than the distance from one to the next control milestone in the project schedule. But you are writing about “rather small 11 projects”. The complexity of the project can be defined in different ways. One of them is as follows: if the duration of all 11 “activities” together is longer than 6 months, and/or the real costs are greater than 40.000,- Euro, and/or the activities require more than 3 different special-ists, then it could be a complex project, containing 11 groups of activities - subprojects. If these conditions are not fulfilled, you can plan it as one simple project with 11 (or more) activities. Each one project activity or small group of activities should correspond to one “work package” from the project’s work break down structure.
