Project planning is the second processes group of the project management cycle, following the project initiation. The aim of the project planning is to put more exactly the assumed project parameters and to assure all informations needed for the project execution and project control.

Recommendation

Project planning is defining the necessary activities and their dependencies as well as also determinig their scope, duration and requirements for resources and cost. The basic input to this processes group is the project definition report, approved at the end of the project initiation. In the decision milestone at the end of planning the project owner approves the selected project plan variant as the project baseline. Project planning is iterative consecutive precising of the content and of the single partial interconnections of the project plan. During project planning the project team is usually expanded with specialists according to the project type.
