Project brief is prepared by the project proposer. The project proposer introduces it to the superiors in order to stimulate the solving of some problem or organizational opportunity and thereby to stimulate the project origination.

Recommendation

Project brief is usually the first document describing the problem or opportunity to be solved by the means of the proposed project. Project brief can describe alternative ways for the project execution. The project proposer elaborates the project brief on the own initiative or under the direction of some executive. The project brief has similar structure like the project proposal, project definition report and project plan. The project brief is usually formulated on less detailed level as the following documents. The project brief has to describe at least: • the organizational problem or opportunity to be solved through the proposed project, • preliminary business case. Project brief can stimulate the project feasibility study or can pick up on the former feasibility study.
