Inadequate communication is a big barrier to successful project realisation. Communication needs to be timely and transparent.

Impact

With inadequate communication the team does not know exactly where the project lies. This includes issues, prevailing risks and opportunities and customer requirements.

Recommendation

A general communication plan is needed to explain the team: what kind of communication is required? (meetings, reports, etc.), who do you need to communicate with? (co-workers, stakeholders, clients, etc.), and how frequently is communication needed? The answers to these questions have to create a general project communication plan.
