Success Problem
Many organizations, PMOs tend to follow the trend of adopting agile project management methodologies. Where it is applicable it's definitely recommended to go for agility in order to reach faster time to market as well increased customer satisfaction. However, while agile project management has the intention to be adaptive and flexible in order to increase productivity, on other hand it tends to ignore the quality of the product but also the quality of the project management process itself.
Impact
If an agile project management method is not implemented with a appropriate quality assurance / quality control mechanism, it can result in loosing control of Organization or PMO Leads over projects where quality degradation is observed.
Recommendation
Although agile principles are trying to avoid comprehensive documentation, there should be at a minimum a quality baseline defined and documented besides of the standard agile artifacts. The quality baseline documentation can support the corporate management and PMO if quality issues appear. In complex projects a regular project health-check review is also recommended in order to ensure the project is delivered in accordance with the company standards and policies.
